Highlighting The Uses Of Limit Switches

Limit Switches are widely used in the electrical engineering industry. It is a piece of electromechanical equipment that is used to automatically detect the presence of an object in order to monitor the movement limits of an object. As these switches are used to define the travel limit of an object, they are called Limit Switch.

When an object comes in physical contact with the actuator, the actuator plunger’s movement causes the electrical contacts in the switch to either open or close their electrical connection. When a certain limit is reached, the actuator can de-activate or activate a device in order to prevent malfunctioning or errors.

Limit Switches are often used for the purpose of tallying items or materials so that when a limit is reached, the switch either closes or opens. It consists of an actuator with the operating head, the switch body mechanism, and a series of electrical terminals that are used to connect the switch to the electrical circuit that it is controlling.

Limit switches can be installed into machinery as control instruments for standard operations or can also be installed as emergency devices so as to prevent malfunction of the machine.

There are a variety of limit switches available, such as –

  • Snap switches
  • Heavy-duty oil-tight switches
  • Gravity return switches
  • Safety locking and unlocking switches

Advantages offered by limit switches –

  • They are suitable in almost every industrial setting
  • They exhibit high accuracy and repeatability
  • They consume less power
  • They can switch high-inductance loads
  • They are easy to install and use
  • They can be used to switch multiple loads

These are some of the uses and advantages of limit switches. If you are planning to purchase limit switches then make sure you are doing so from a reputed limit switch manufacturer in India. At Jigo, we manufacture and supply the best quality limit switches all over the country.
